LAHORE (92 News) – Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Shamim has summoned IGP Punjab Amjad Javed Saleemi over the Sahiwal incident on January 24.
While hearing a petition filed by Safdar Shaheen Pirzada advocate, the LHC CJ remarked that the court will review whether the statements of witnesses have been recorded or not. “The LHC CJ has authority to get a judicial inquiry conducted,” he added.
He observed that the court can only form the judicial commission after consulting the government. The CJ also ordered the petitioner to approach the federal government in this regard.
The petitioner stated that the CTD officials opened fire on a vehicle near Sahiwal Bypass, killing four people including two women. “A JIT has been formed to probe into the matter, but the JIT probe will not make the facts public,” he said, citing the Model Town tragedy.
The state counsel said that the government is taking the matter seriously and a JIT had been formed in this regard. He prayed to the court to order a judicial inquiry into the matter so that responsible be brought to justice.
