Salaried class being given chance to build house for first time in Pakistan's history: PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan has said on Sunday that the salaried class is being given a opportunity to build a house for the first time in Pakistan's history.

The prime minister said while addressing a live telethon on Pakistan Television Network for Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme loans. He said there was no such concept of housing loan for the poor people in the country.

PM Khan maintained that although it is a regular practice in European countries, it is for the first time in Pakistan's history that salaried individuals are being given a chance to build a house.

Imran Khan said that the NBP, being the premier bank of the country, should also instruct its staffers, to facilitate the loan applicants, observing that the bank employees were also not in habit of extending such easy loans to the cashless people.

"The government's Naya Pakistan Housing Scheme is the most important project for the country's future, instructing the State Bank and National Bank of Pakistan to facilitate those applying for low-cost housing loan under Naya Pakistan Housing Program.

PM Imran Khan said that once people start building homes, there will a boom in the construction industry which will bring about a revolutionary change in Pakistan. He said that the construction of homes, besides revenue generation, will also lead to job creation.

Simultaneously aired on PTV and different private channels, the telethon was attended by Senator Shibli Faraz, Chairman of Naya Pakistan Housing and Development Authority Lt. General (Retd) Anwar Ali Hyder, State Bank Governor Raza Baqir, President of National Bank of Pakistan Arif Usmani and Executive Director SBP Samar Hasnain.

The prime minister joined the telethon telephonically for being in quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19 a week ago.
