March 9, 2015
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday upheld Mumtaz Qadri’s death sentence under Section-302 of the Pakistan Penal Code for killing former Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer. The two-member bench comprising of Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui declared Qadri’s death sentence under the Anti-Terrorism Act null and void. Qadri had filed an appeal in the court against his conviction. After the arguments of AG Islamabad and prosecution and defence counsels on February 11, the IHC had reserved the judgment. The Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court had awarded Mumtaz Qadri death in 2011.
