ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has sought reply from Prime Minister Imran Khan over continuing absence of the ministers from the Upper House of the parliament. The Senate chairman was irked by the absence of State Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan from house. The opposition staged a walk-out over his absence and amid that protest lack of quorum was also pointed out. Sanjrani said the prime minister should be asked as to why ministers do not come to the house. Earlier November 15, Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has banned the entry of Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry to the House until an apology. In a ruling, he ruled that the minister should tender his apology in the House. “The ban will remain intact the apology from the minister,” he ordered. The Senate chairman maintained that the Upper House has been custodian of the highest traditions and will continue to uphold it. “There has been nuisance in the House for some time. It is mandatory that we should refrain from such words and attitudes,” he ruled. Sanjrani said that the responsibility of running the House is more on the government. “Both sides should respect the leader of the house, opposition leader and chairman,” he ruled. He observed that no member should be allowed to show such allusion or attitude that hurts the respect of the House during the proceedings. “The minister should tender an apology over whatever happened yesterday.” The Senate chairman rules that the action is being taken under Senate Rule 13(3) and 264.
Earlier on Jan 21, the opposition parties in the Senate have rejected the joint investigation team (JIT) on the Sahiwal incident. Speaking in the House on Monday, PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said that the JIT formed by the government is tantamount to concealing the facts. Rejecting the government stance, she demanded the government should make the responsible public. “The government has continuously been changing the stance on the Sahiwal tragedy. The incident was planned and extra-judicial killings should be stopped,” she said.
