RIYADH/TEHRAN (Web Desk) Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian held talks over the phone on recent developments in the Middle East, with a focus on rising tensions between Iran and the US regarding Tehran’s nuclear programme.
The discussions took place amid growing concerns about the prospect of renewed negotiations on Iran’s nuclear deal.
Pezeshkian reiterated that Iran is not seeking war and stressed that non-peaceful use of nuclear energy has no place in the country’s security doctrine. He also reaffirmed Iran's readiness for dialogue to reduce tensions, emphasising mutual respect.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump expressed a desire for direct talks with Iran, following recent statements by senior Iranian officials suggesting the country would pursue nuclear weapons if attacked.
Analysts believe indirect talks between the US and Iran are set to resume in Oman within the next three weeks.
The situation in the Middle East remains tense, with the ongoing Gaza conflict further complicating efforts for regional stability.
Both Saudi Arabia and Iran expressed a commitment to enhancing cooperation for peace and security in the region.
