ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday rejected the revised schedule for Local Government elections in Sindh and Punjab and approved the revised schedule for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and cantonment areas with a few amendments.
A three member bench headed by Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja while hearing the case grilled the Attorney General for delays in holding of polls and fixed April 25, 2015 for LG polls in cantonment areas and May 30, 2015 for KP.
Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Deputy Director Irfan Kauser apprised the court that time is required for printing of 400 million ballot papers. He said machines in the Printing Corporation Pakistan were from 1951 and printing work cannot be expedited on the available machines.
Justice Jawwad in his remarks said that such printing machines should be kept in museums.
The court said that a fresh schedule for Sindh and Punjab should be presented in court on Friday.
The hearing was adjourned till Friday (today) .
