SC declares Islamabad's Gun & Country Club illegal

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court declared on Monday that the Gun and Country Club in declared Gun and Country Club Islamabad illegal. A two member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case related to the club and the construction of a marriage hall on its premises. The bench directed the ministry of inter provincial coordination to seize the club as well as the marriage hall constructed on the premises. During the hearing, the chief justice remarked that the land on which the club has been established belongs to Pakistan Sports Board and people who are members of the club took membership at their own risk. He further remarked that there is no legal approval for the construction of the club. The chief justice also referred the matter regarding returning membership fee to the relevant ministry. "We will establish a polyclinic on this land," Justice Nisar remarked. "In 1975, 145 acres of land was leased and in 2008 the lease was extended for 33 years," the bench observed. "Capital Development Authority (CDA) was not asked before leasing land to the gun club," it added. – SC satisfies over public response for dams construction – The Supreme Court has expressed satisfaction over the public response to the account opened for the construction of dams in Pakistan. Hearing a case pertaining to dams in Islamabad on Monday, a bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar said the audit of dam account will be carried out under the supervision of the apex court.
