ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed the review petition of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against the order to conduct the Punjab elections on May 14.

The three-member bench heard the plea.

Justice Muneeb Akhtar remarked that the constitution orders the elections within 90 days of the dissolution of the assembly. "No one can deviate or exceed the constitution. The SC has already ordered that the ECP cannot extend the date for the elections," he observed.

The ECP counsel argued that the commission had been given the power to give the election date after amendment to the elections.

The court ruled that they had no answer as who will give the election date.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the court will intervene whenever will be the violation of the constitution.
