ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A two-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, dismissed the petition seeking display of the ‘Markhor’ logo on PIA planes. Hearing the case concerning the privatisation of PIA on Saturday, the CJ remarked that national flag should not be removed from PIA planes and removal of flag will be considered disobedience of court ruling. He remarked that national institution has been destroyed and its former heads are only worried about their foreign trips. He ordered the immediate start of the audit with the Terms of Reference to be submitted in the next 15 days. The Supreme Court ordered the auditor general of Pakistan International Airlines to submit audit details of the last decade within next 10 weeks. Meanwhile, Justice Saqib Nisar allowed Shujaat Azeem, the former special assistant to the prime minister on aviation, to travel abroad conditionally. Hearing a suo motu case related to Rs54 billion worth of loan waivers carried out by 222 individuals and companies, the CJ remarked that consensus has been developed for immediate construction of two new dams in view of the chronic water crisis in the country. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar observed that the consensus was developed during a key meeting with experts and various stakeholders earlier this week. The amount recovered from the defaulters will be used to construct two new dams immediately, the chief justice remarked. Chief Justice Nisar stated that some of the defaulters have expressed willingness to pay 75 percent of the written-off loan amount, whereas those who do not return the amount will be sent to the banking courts. The court then adjourned hearing of the case till July 4. Lauding the chief justice, Farooq H Naik said: “The history will write your name in golden words.”
