SC dismisses Sindh govt’s plea regarding 18th Amendment

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday dismissed the Sindh government’s plea regarding the 18th Constitutional Amendment. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar read out the brief veridc on the plea. Reasons for the dismissal of the plea will be issued in the Supreme Court’s detailed verdict. According to the verdict, Jinnah Hospital Karachi will remain under the control of the federal government. After the verdict, Jinnah Hospital administration and staff expressed jubilations and danced to the beat of drum. The Sindh government had filed a plea in the Supreme Court pertaining to provincial authority in the 18th Constitutional Amendment. The 18th Constitutional Amendment was passed on April 8, 2010 and divested the president of all his executive authority and made him a ceremonial head of state. The amendment also changed the name of North West Frontier Province (NWFP) to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and gave provinces power from the Centre.

Orange Line Case

The Supreme Court disposed of the suo motu notice of the Orange Line project after the construction companies submitted the bank guarantee worth Rs one billion.

Christian Marriages Registration

The court also ordered the union councils to register the marriages of the Christians, asking the NADRA to issue computerized registration certificates. It also ordered the Punjab government to formulate rules in this regard.

Environmental Pollution Case

CJP Mian Saqib Nisar dismissed the plea of Dr Pervaiz Hassan to allow him relinquish the charge. He remarked that Dr Pervaiz Hassan had always helped the court in the public interest matters. “We will not allow you to leave. You should continue assistance in the environmental pollution matters,” he remarked.
