SC expresses surprise over railways minister’s statement regarding new appointments

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Conducting hearing on a suo motu notice pertaining to losses incurred by Pakistan Railways, the Supreme Court on Thursday expressed surprise over Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed’s statement regarding new appointments. During the hearing, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that Railways has already 77,000 employees, asking that where will the minister appoint 100,000 workers. Giving justification, the additional attorney general said that perhaps Sheikh Rasheed made a mistake in choice of words. Justice Gulzar Ahmed reprimanded railways secretary and said he has failed in running the company. “Railways secretary, chief executive officer (CEO) and all divisional superintendents (DSs) must be terminated, the chief justice affirmed. The top court sought the report regarding ML-1 and adjourned the hearing for one month.
