SC fixes hearing of coronavirus suo-moto notice on April 20

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Friday fixed hearing of coronavirus suo-moto notice on April 20. The apex court formed larger bench to hear coronavirus suo-moto notice. A five-member larger bench of the SC led by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed will take up the case on April 20. The apex court has issued notices to attorney general, secretary health and the advocate general of the all four provinces in this context. The federal interior secretary, chief commissioner Islamabad and the chief secretary Gilgit Baltistan have also been served notices. Earlier, PM Imran Khan has rebuked his Special Assistant on Health Dr Zafar Mirza over exhibiting non-serious behaviour before the Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday. The prime minister’s reaction came after the SAPM on Health Dr Zafar Mirza showed unserious behaviour during his appearance before the top court hearing the matters related to coronavirus pandemic in the country. He took of Dr Zafar Mirza failing to suitably represent the government’s efforts to curb the coronavirus and took him to task. Sources have said that according to the PM, it is the responsibility of the special assistant to comprehensively and suitably represent the government’s efforts in front of the SC but he has been unable to satisfy the court with regards to its apprehensions about the government and its policies. PM Khan expressed displeasure at the special assistant’s behavior at yesterday’s cabinet meeting saying that the incumbent government has utmost respect for the chief justice and SC; such irresponsible behavior against it will not be tolerated.
