SC indicts Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza in contempt of judiciary

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday indicted Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza in a contempt of judiciary for threatening Justice Qazi Faez Isa in a social media video. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed conducted the hearing during which Agha Iftikharuddin said he is extremely apologetic about the remarks and seeks forgiveness as a Muslim also, adding that he was not aware of uploading and editing of the video. The apex court rejected the second unconditional apology of Agha Iftikhar and indicted him in anti-judiciary video and granted a week’s time to the accused to submit written answer. “This is not a case which can be forgiven and you cannot mock the court. The entire system will fail in this way. You were using such language which even an ignorant person cannot use. Court is not satisfied with your previous written answer,” CJP Gulzar Ahmed remarked. Earlier, the SC rejected the apology of Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza for threatening Justice Qazi Faez Isa in a social media video. Mirza’s lawyer said that his client is old and three of his arteries are blocked, adding that he has also been suffering from chest pain. Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that people conveniently become sick whenever courts summon them. He also remarked that the video was filmed through planning and added the pictures. “It is not possible to apologize now,” he added. The chief justice remarked that the apology cannot be given on many things, directing to present Agha Iftikharuddin in next hearing. Earlier, the police on Friday took Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza into custody in a case regarding threats hurled to Justice Qazi Faez Isa and the judiciary in a video. Later, Agha Iftikharuddin Mirza was released after the FIA assured the court of submitting the written reply of the accused.
