SC issues notices to Federal, Punjab & KP govts for tomorrow in plea against postponement of polls

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court, while hearing the plea against postponement of the elections, issued notices to the Federal, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governments for Tuesday.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that the ECP has power to change the schedule of the elections. "The ECP has extended the date for the elections in the past. Will the caretaker government tenure be extended if the elections date is extended?" he questioned.

A five-member bench larger bench headed by Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial is hearing the plea. The larger bench will comprise of Ejazul Ahsan, Justice Muneeb Akhtar, Justice Ameenuddin and Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel.

The PTI had filed a contempt of court plea, through Asad Umar, against the decision of the ECP, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief Election Commissioner Raja Sikandar Sultan.
