ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday ordered to open the markets and shopping malls on Saturday and Sunday. Hearing the coronavirus suo motu notice, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that the closure of markets and business activities is the violation of the constitution. He remarked that Sindh should approach the federal government for opening the shopping malls. “After the permission, no hurdle should be created in the opening of the shopping malls. A large number of people in Pakistan are poor. People earn their livelihood daily. Does anyone know how much unemployment would increase? Would millions of people be fired upon to stop them?” The CJ remarked that millions of people would be on roads due to closure of businesses and industries and it would be impossible for the government to deal with the destruction. The five-member bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed comprised of Justice Mashir Alam, Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan and Justice Qazi Amin. Earlier, the federal and Punjab governments had submitted their reports. During the last hearing on May 4, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed had ordered the federal government to form a uniform policy about coronavirus. He remarked that they would issue an interim order if the uniform policy was not formed in the stipulated time. Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed remarked that conditions are deteriorating across the country. “One should ask the people who lost their jobs that how their life is going on,” he remarked. He had expressed his indignation at the reports presented by the federal and provincial government. “It is possible that the intention of President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan is good. But no work is seen being done,” he remarked.
