SC orders Bahria Town chief to submit Rs5 billion, property as guarantee

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court has ordered Baharia Town chief to submit Rs5 billion and personal property papers as guarantee within two weeks. The apex court barred Bahria Town from initiating new projects. Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar expressed resentment over non-accomplishment of court orders in a case pertaining to Bahria Town Karachi issuing notices to people who have already been allotted plots, commercial buildings or build-up units to make payments to a bank account set up by the housing society. Justice Saqib Nisar remarked that Bahria Town administration was forcing investors not to deposit money to account of the court. Responding to which, lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan said Bahria Town administration had not forced any investor. Justice Nisar said he had no sympathy for those occupying land illegally. He also questioned that who gave Bahria Town administration the permission to construct 20-storey buildings in Karachi. The apex court barred Bahria Town administration from initiating new projects and advance bookings. The case has been adjourned till July 28.
