SC orders not to arrest Musharraf till appearance in court

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered to provide Rangers security to former president Pervez Musharraf and not to arrest him any case till he turns up before the apex court. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case pertaining to National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), passed by Musharraf 2007. During the hearing, defence lawyer Akhtar Shah informe the court that his client Musharraf is suffering from some serious disease. Shah further apprised that Musharraf has security threats and not satisfied with the security of Interior Ministry but he has promised that he will return. To reply, the chief justice remarked, “I had earlier told you that nobody will arrest Musharraf. He should record his statement in the high treason case before a special court." The top judge further remarked that the courts could not allow Musharraf to reject their authority. "If Musharraf will continue to stay abroad, we will keep issuing red warrants," Justice Nisar said. Justice Nisar said that Musharraf should get his ailment treated. "I too am suffering from a painful backache. We have arrangements for top-of-the-line treatment for Musharraf's ailment here," he said. Remarking about the circumstances, the chief justice said that Musharraf must avoid any situation where he may have to return to Pakistan in a way that will cause embarrassment for him. “Why the brave commando (Musharraf) frightened to face the trial of courts,” he asked. The CJ further said that the former president and Ishaq Dar are both hiding in foreign countries. "We are granting him a protective bail," he said. He also said that Naeem Bukhari will examine the cleanliness of Musharraf’s residence. The top judge ordered to provide Rangers security to Musharraf where he lands in Pakistan and he would not be arrested in any case till the court appearance. He also sought a medical report of the former president from the defence lawyer within a one week. The hearing was then adjourned till October 11.
