SC orders govt to hold census from March 2017 to May 2017

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court has on Thursday ordered the government to hold the population census in the country from March 15, 2017 to May 15, 2017. A three member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Anwar Zaheer jamali resumed the proceedings of the population census delay case. During the hearings, Attorney General told the court that the government would start census from April 2017, to which while expressing the anger, the court said that the government had given March 2017 date for holding census in the last hearing. The CJP remarked that if the government isn’t serious the court will summon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in the court. “This is an important matter as democracy depends strongly on population census, adding that the elections would be a joke if the government failed to hold census,” he added. Anwar Zaheer Jamali remarked that the government isn’t sincere in holding a census. The attorney general said that the Council of Common Interest (CCI) has to take the decision, to which the CJP said that the prime minister should come and the court that it is the matter of CCI. The court has ordered the government to hold the population census in the country from March 15, 2017 to May 15, 2017 and dismissed the hearing until December 7.
