SC orders immediate construction of Bhasha, Mohmand dams

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered immediate construction of Bhasha and Mohmand dams. Hearting a case related to scarcity of water and construction of new dams on Wednesday, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar announced a short judgment and sought a report from the departments concerned. He donated Rs one million for the dams and asked the nation to donate for the purpose. The CJP remarked that the CCI and experts are agreed on the construction of dams. “Water is inevitable for the survival of the country,” he added. He also formed a committee headed by WAPDA chairman to implement the court verdict. The WAPDA chairman told court that US$11 billion is required for the Bhasha Dam and Rs 309 billion for Mohmand Dam. The CJP remarked that the nation will see the results of the dams’ construction. “All are not agreed on the Kalabagh Dam. We have to unite, not to break, the country,” he maintained.
