SC orders new JIT to immediately start probe into murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the newly-formed joint investigation team (JIT) to immediately start a probe into the murder of senior journalist Arshad Sharif.

The court also ordered the JIT to present the progress report after two weeks.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial said that the JIT should investigate the matter without any pressure and should file an application immediately if it feels any hurdle in this regard.

The JIT will record the statements of other people, including the mother of Arshad Sharif.

During the hearing, the additional attorney general confirmed the link with the Interpol for the arrest of the accused. The case has been adjourned till the first week of January.

In a reply submitted to the Supreme Court, the Foreign Office said that it is being considered to shift the accused of Arshad Sharif to Pakistan from Kenya.

It said that the Pakistan Mission is in contact with the Kenyan and UAE authorities for further investigations. The High Commission has assured that the links with the Kenyan authorities will yield positive results, which would be shared with the public.
