SC orders to continue anti-encroachment operation in Karachi

KARACHI (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar has ordered to continue the anti-encroachment operation in the city. Hearing the case at Karachi Registry on Tuesday, he ordered that houses and markets constructed on the welfare projects should be given 45-day notice instead of 15 days. The CJP also directed the Sindh government to release Rs 200 million to KMC. The Federation, the provincial government and the Karachi mayor presented the joint strategy. They also agreed to continue the operation. In his report, the Karachi mayo said that Umar Farooqi Market adjacent to Empress Market, while encroachments along pavements, houses and hotels have been removed. He said that the original form of Empress Market has been restored, while 603 shopkeepers have been shifted to an alternate place. According to the Sindh government report, 400 shops will be constructed on a plot in front of Parking Plaza, 1,200 plots in Bolton Market and 265 shops in Khardar. It stated that total 2,105 shops will be given to the affectees. Talking to the media, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar said that encroachments will be removed from parks, drains and empty plots.
