SC orders to remove Ishaq Dar from chairmanship of UHS board

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday ordered to dismiss former finance minister Ishaq Dar from the chairmanship of University of Health Sciences (UHS) board. A bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard a case pertaining to the appointing a regular vice chancellor of the UHS. The health secretary appeared before the court. On conversation with the health secretary, the top judge said that Dar did not come on the directions of court and how will he come back to Pakistan on behalf of letter. CJ Nisar remarked that why an absconder has the chairmanship of UHS board till now. Wrapping up the case of absence of the Chairman in UHS, Chief Justice Saqib Nisar ordered to dismiss Dar and appointing a new chairman of the board within three days. It is pertinent to mention here that Ishaq Dar was re-elected as chairman of the BoG of the university in December 2015 for a three-year term. As per the UHS Act, all the administrative and financial decisions required approval from the board of governors of the varsity. Previously, the varsity remained without a regular vice chancellor for more than 18 months following the retirement of Prof Mohammad Aslam. The apex court intervened into the matter and helped appointing a regular vice chancellor of the UHS through a search committee few weeks ago.
