SC orders to shut down a mineral water company on sub-standard report

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered to shut down a franchise of mineral water company on sub-standard report. A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar heard a groundwater case on Tuesday. During the hearing, the Federal Environment Protection Agency lady officer apprised the court that the water mineral companies has no laborites, adding that they are not using the technologies for separation of mineral from water and restoration of underground water. Punjab Food Authority Director General Captain Usman informed the court that the written ingredients on the bottles of water selling companies cannot match. He also told the court that when a sample took from a franchise of water company, following the results showed the water was sub-standard. As during the hearing, the court expressed anger over misbehaving of company owner with the Food Authority DG. Meanwhile, the court has taken strict action against a company for selling water which was unfit for consumption. The court directed to arrest the owner from court room after registering case as per Food Authority act. To this, the chief justice forbids to arrest company owner after excusing from the court. The Supreme Court ordered the foreign drinks company to shut down its water plant. Chief Justice Saqib Nisar said that people are being deceived in the name of mineral water. “This is a matter of people’s lives.” He remarked that those in power will not change their attitude until action is taken against them. Heads of 11 mineral companies appeared before the court. The top judge said that the companies should work together to form a plan of action. He said that discussions are under way to reduce the cost of water. The auditor general informed that court that one litre bottle of water costs Rs8.79 with packaging. The chief justice praised two local companies for selling quality water. The hearing has been adjourned till December 3, Monday. On Monday, the water commission informed the court that the companies are unaware of what minerals are present in the water and in what quantity.
