SC orders to stop trial of Tayyaba torture case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) has ordered to stop the trial of housemaid Tayyaba suo moto case.   The hearing of the suo moto case of housemaid Tayyaba was held in the Supreme Court on Wednesday.   During the hearing, the SC has directed the Islamabad High Court to review the case and give a clear transfer order in 15 days.   The chief justice in his remarks said that the decision regarding Tayyaba’s custody would be taken in the next heading.   He said that the case would be taken to a logical conclusion.   Counsel Asma Jahangir said that several institutions, including the government, are contacting her to withdraw from the case.   Earlier, Asma Jahangir argued that provision of justice is not possible due to the influence of the accused.   The parents of the girl are avoiding the proceedings due to pressure, she said.   The lawyer requested the court to transfer the case to some other province.   A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Justice Saqib Nisar is hearing the case.   None of the parties, including former judge Raja Khurram Ali and his wife Maheen Ali, appeared before the court during the previous hearing.   Tayyaba, aged ten, had stated before a magistrate that the family of Additional Sessions Judge Raja Khurram Ali Khan had tortured her for misplacing a broom.
