SC rejects plea to increase minorities’ seats in assemblies
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) has rejected a plea seeking an increase in the seats of minorities in national and provinsional assemblies.
A two-member bench headed by Justice Ejazul Hassan conducted heard the plea on Monday.
The court remarked that an amendment to the constitution is required for increasing seats of minorities in assemblies. “The Supreme Court cannot order the parliament to make amendment in the constitution,” it added.
The petitoner said that there is a massive increase in population of the minorities. “After an increase in population, the court should order the parliament to increase seats of minorities in assemblies,” he contended.
