SC reserves verdict on Railway Golf Club land case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has reserved the verdict on the Railway Golf Club land case on Thursday. During the hearing, the Panama case was also mentioned. At this, Justice Ejazul Ahsan questioned that should the court do the same with it. After the hearing, Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed said that the railway is near to bankruptcy. “The agreement was of 103 acres, but 143 acres of land has been occupied,” he said. The minister said that it was the biggest fraud of the subcontinent. “During the British rule, the Golf Club spanned over 103 acres,” he said. He was of the view that they will have to change the corrupt bureaucracy if they want to change the condition of the country. “The department can also avoid deficit through this opportunity,” he said. The minister said that the company that got it on lease did not pay a single so far. “An amount of Rs5 billion is outstanding from the leased company,” he said. On April 4, the Supreme Court had sought a copy of the filed reference in the Royal Palm Golf and Country Club case. Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the court will now take the case to logical conclusion. The NAB prosecutor general told the court that a reference had been filed over the lease issue and indictment is still pending. Moreover, the court also allowed Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed to present the arguments in the case and asked him to come to court on the next hearing with preparation. Later, the case was adjourned till Thursday.
