ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Tuesday reserved the verdict on the reserved seats case of the Sunni Ittehad Council.

Concluding the case, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa remarked that the court would look into matter whether the issuance of the short verdict was possible or not. “According to the proportional representation, the SIC should get zero seats,” he observed.

Justice Athar Minallah remarked that the PTI was facing the situation akin to the situation faced by the PML-N in 2018. “A big party has been kept away from the election. Should the court not rectify the anomalies in the election process. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is not providing the data to prove its honesty,” he observed.

The SIC counsel contended that the court was terming them independent candidates, but they were not independent candidates. “The ECP has not fulfilled its responsibility. In 2018, the Balochistan Awam Party won no seat, but it was given three reserved seats,” he argued.

Justice Irfan Sadaat observed that the Balochistan Awam Party had contested the election, but the SIC’s case is different. “The SIC had not contested the election. The ECP has written the facts,” he remarked.
