SC stays execution of blasphemy convict Asia Bibi

LAHORE (92 News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan on Wednesday stayed execution orders of blasphemy convict Asia Bibi. As per details, a three-member bench led by Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case in the Lahore registry. During the proceedings, the convict's counsel pleaded before the court that all the allegations against her client are baseless, and she is innocent. The bench approved Asia's appeal, stopping her execution. It also sought record of the previous proceeding in next hearing. Asia Bibi was accused of committing blasphemy and was sentenced to death penalty by trial court in 2009.
