SC summons attorney general in Asghar Khan case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday summoned Attorney General of Pakistan Ashtar Ausaf in a case pertaining to implementation of verdict in Asghar Khan case. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Saqib Nisar heard the case at SC Lahore Registry. During the hearing, the chief justice questioned from the federal's lawyer that what decision has been taken by the cabinet meeting. Deputy attorney general told the court that the cabinet has taken a positive decision. He said that the attorney general will appear before court and inform about the decision. The chief Justice expressed anger amid the absence of attorney general and remarked that the hearing of such a significant case is underway but he was not concerned. The CJ asked that is this the performance of attorney general’s office? Saqib Nisar directed that the attorney general should appear before court tomorrow. he remarked that the cabinet has not taken any effective decision, adding that they just got rid of the matter by forming a committee. He further said that the case was pending for past several years. Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi chaired the farewell meeting of the federal cabinet at the PM’s Office during which the Supreme Court’s instructions in Asghar Khan case were reviewed. On the instructions of the supreme court, the federal cabinet directed the investigation and prosecution agencies to act according to law in Asghar Khan case.
