SC summons details of newly-elected senators with dual nationality

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday summoned details of newly-elected senators with dual nationality. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar heard the case related to the dual nationality of the judges and government officials. In today’s proceedings, the CJP summoned details of officers working in the Prime Minister Secretariat dual nationality. The court asked all the secretaries and officials from Grade 17 to Grade 22 to bring their national identity card numbers in the court. While giving his remarks, Justice Saqib Nisar said that he would give immigrant Pakistanis the right to vote, adding that he came to know six senators with dual nationality were elected. He asked what would be the legal status of the senators having dual nationality. The CJP observed that the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA) would not be given relaxation anymore. He directed to inform the court about the number of NADRA officials with dual nationality. The court was also informed that not a single judge of the top court had dual nationality. Secretary Establishment told the court that 64 officers from Punjab, 5 from Sindh, 18 from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eight from Balochistan, 28 from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and one from Gilgit Baltistan were holding dual nationality. NADRA chairman said that it would be difficult to catch the ones who were not using foreign passports to which the CJP the man holding dual nationality would easily fled the country after making black money.
