SC adjourns contempt of court case against Sheikh Rasheed

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court adjourned the contempt of court against Minister for Railways Sheikh Rasheed after Shehbaz Sharif's counsel Ahstar Ausaf fell unwell in courtroom on Wednesday.

Justice Azmat Saeed reprimanded the Rawalpindi commissioner and deputy commissioner for violating the court orders, saying both not eligible for service in Rawalpindi.

Justice Ejazul Hassan questioned on whose order the wall was demolished. Later, the court adjourned the cases against Sheikh Rasheed and Shehbaz Sharif.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court had summoned the Rawalpindi commissioner and deputy commissioner in the case. During the hearing, Justice Ejazul Hassan had remarked that the court had ordered that there would be no occupation on the land owned by Girls Guide, but its wall was demolished despite the court orders.

He remarked that Girls Guide is an institution for girls and its activities have stopped after the demolition of the wall.“Has the Punjab government become a ‘Qabza’ group?” he questioned.

The court also ordered Sheikh Rashid Shafique to remain in his limits.

Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the court would order someone else if the Punjab government failed in protecting Girls Guide. “It is better that the matter should not go to such extent. The court knows how to implement its order,” he remarked.

Girls Guide’s counsel Ayesha Hamid told court that the district administration was informed about the court orders.

She said that Sheikh Rasheed had told the DC on phone that he does not care for the court orders. She added that the wall was demolished in the presence of Rashid Shafiq.

The Punjab additional advocate general had ensured the court that constriction of the wall would start immediately.
