SC suspends LHC verdict, allows collection of surcharge on power bills

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court on Monday suspended the LHC verdict and allowed the Wapda to collect surcharge on bills till final judgment of the case. The three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk heard the government petition. Attorney General Salman Butt, in his arguments, stated that DS Equalization and Neelum Jhelum Surcharge are not taxes, but they are under the price head. Justice Ameer Hani Muslim, in his remarks, questioned whether the Sindh High Court has pronounced the judgment on it. The Attorney General replied that the SHC had already given the verdict in this regard in 2008.
