ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Supreme Court (SC) has suspended the order of Peshawar High Court (PHC) of delaying second phase of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) local bodies elections.

Counsel of Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) said that bench of Abbotabad delayed the schedule without listening to ECP. Before ECP had received notice PHC had already delayed local bodies’ elections. After receving application of five districts, elections have been delayed of 18 districts.

Justice Ayesha Malik remarked that High Court should have listented the opinion of ECP before giving a verdict. “It was not verified yet that weather system of KPK can put hurdles in elections,” she added.

The court issued notice to participants and adjourned hearing of the case till Feburary 14.
