LAHORE (92 News) - The Supreme Court on Saturday suspended the powers of Hamza Shehba as chief minister of Punjab.

During the hearing, the deputy speaker's counsel contended, "The deputy speaker thought that the parliamentary leader of the party is the chairman of the party. He thought that the parliamentary leader and the party chief are the same thing."

The court remarked that the deputy speaker had misunderstood and took such a big action by misunderstanding.  The court summoned the deputy speaker along with the record to Islamabad on Monday.

The court questioned on which basis he had given the ruling. "We cannot leave the province in ambiguity.

"Hamza Shehbaz will continue to work as a trustee until the court's decision," the court ordered. Later, hearing was adjourned till Monday.

It should be noted that a 3-member bench headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan has been formed on the petition submitted by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the PML-Q in the Supreme Court Lahore Registry on the issue of the election of the Chief Minister of Punjab.
