SC was tested by getting it entangled in constitutional issues: CJP Umar Ata Bandial

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial has said that the Supreme Court was tested by getting it entangled in constitutional issues.

He was addressing the full court ceremony on the new judicial year on Monday. He said that the court itself became a victim of the harsh trial and environment several times.

"The judicial performance was also affected. None of us objected to holding elections within 90 days after the dissolution of the assembly. It became a trouble as it was political battle," he said.

CJP Umar Ata Bandial said that the innocent remarks of 'good to see you' was presented sarcastically. "We do not want to repeat the incidents that happened. The SC is accused of keeping the Dam Fund worth billions of rupees. The Dam Fund is under the government security," he added.

He said that a record 30,000 cases were settled in a year.

The CJP also expressed good wishes for CJP-designate Qazi Faiz Isa. He prayed for stability in the country, saying that each institution, including the judiciary, will stabilize with political stability in the country.

He said that the SC had further strengthened with the induction of the female judges. "The number of women on the administrative posts in the SC had also increased," he added.
