LAHORE (92 News) – Raising concerns about the poor air quality poses a risk to the health of every person, the schools have been forced to shut down in Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala on Friday (today).
According to the details garnered, Qasur with its adjoining areas have been hit by smog and respiratory illnesses are on the rise and people are having trouble breathing.

The air in Punjab, Pakistan’s most populous province, is so toxic that people’s health and lives are in grave danger. The blanket of dense smog continues to engulf parts of Punjab, forcing citizens to take precautionary measures as the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed hazardous level. According to a notification issued by the provincial government, the schools will remain closed due to dense smog in the three districts.

The Air Quality Index (AQI) in Lahore had reached 371 on average morning at 9am. The AQI in Gulberg was 651, in areas around Punjab Assembly, it was 646, Upper Mall at 458, Sundar Industries recorded 437, Zeenat Block observed 414, and Askari Heights witnessed AQI at 337. As per Lahore US consulate Air Quality Monitor feed, the level of smog was 471.
Health experts have advised people, especially children and the elderly, to remain indoors and take more liquids.
On Nov 14, the Punjab government
has announced two holidays due to smog in three districts.
According to a notification issued by Punjab Education Minister Murad Raas, the public and private schools will remain closed on Friday and Saturday in Lahore, Faisalabad and Gujranwala.
On the other hand, Lahore has become the third most polluted city in the world. The air pollution index has reached 274.
