ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The second phase of the local bodies elections will be held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on March 31.

The Election Commision of Pakistan (ECP) rejected applications to postpone the second phase of the KPK Local Bodies elections.

Announcing the verdict, the chief election commissioner said that the local bodies elections are very important for strengthening democracy. “Different circles had asked to postpone the electiosn. The local government elections could not be held for two years, while it is mandatory to hold them within 120 days as per the constitution,” he added.

He said that they are sending a proposal to the parliament, askign them not to change the law after an end to the tenure of the local governments.

The CEC said that the KPk government and security agencies worked hard and helped in conducting the good elections. “If we keep looking at weathers and security, then the elections will never be conducted,” he concluded .
