Security forces among 13 injured in Torkham firing

TORKHAM (92 News) – At least 13 people including security force personnel were injured during unprovoked firing of Afghan security forces at Torkham border on early Monday. As per details, the tensions at Pak-Afghan border escalated once again when Afghan security forces resorted to unprovoked firing at Torkham, injuring 13 people including three Khasadar Force personnel and one Frontier Corps personnel. According to ISPR, Pakistani security forces responded to Afghan firing effectively silencing the guns of Afghan security forces. In order to stop the movement of terrorists through Torkham, Pakistan is constructing a gate on own its side of the border as a necessity to check unwanted and illegal movement. Sources said that the incident took place due to the construction of gate on Pakistan’s side. A curfew was declared in Landi Kotal following the firing incident. Previously, Pakistan had imposed ban on without visas entry on its side two weeks ago on which the Afghan government had reservations due to which the tensions between the two countries escalated. Pakistan has expressed its deep concerns over unprovoked firing incident at Afghan border and urged Afghan government to immediately investigate into the matter. According to a PM Office spokesperson, Pakistan considers these unprovoked attacks unhelpful in Pak-Afghan relations. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Khawaja Asif has said border management with Afghanistan is vital for our security. “Free flow of traffic cannot be allowed at Pakistan-Afghanistan border,” he said. Earlier, a soldier of Pakistani security forces got wounded following unprovoked firing by Afghan security forces across the border at Torkham.
