Security forces kill eight terrorists in Karachi shootout

KARACHI (92 News) – Sindh Rangers have gunned down at least eight terrorists from a group which tried to assassinate an opposition politician during an operation in Baldia Town’s Raees Goth area of Karachi on Sunday. As per details, the paramilitary force staged a joint raid with Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) officers in the Raees Goth area after intelligence information about the presence of militants. After an intense exchange of fire five terrorists were killed on the spot, while three others who were captured wounded later died in hospital. The terrorists established belonged to Ansar-ul-Sharia which was involved in the attempt to assassinate opposition politician Khawaja Izharul Hassan from the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-Pakistan) in September. The MQM-Pakistan leader was unhurt but the group killed a 10-year-old boy and a guard and wounded four others in the shootout last month. Ansar-ul-Sharia chief Sheharyar - also known as Abdullah Hashmi - was among those killed in the overnight raid, Raza said, describing him as the mastermind of the assassination bid. The other terrorist was identified as Arslan Baig, who was also a part of the terrorist group’s target killing team. Sources privy to the security forces said that weapons and hand grenades were also recovered from the terrorists.
