Senate election will be held under secret balloting: ECP

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Senate election will be held under the old method of the secret balloting due to shortage of time, announced the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday.

In a declaration, the ECP stated that a three-member committee has been formed to use technology keeping in view the Supreme Court opinion. The committee will present its recommendations after getting feedback from the NADRA, the FIA and the Information Technology Ministry within four weeks.

It said that the ECP will take all-out steps to make the Senate election transparent. "The ECP has received the SC detailed judgment ordering secret balloting," it added.

The statement read that the ECP will make a justified and transparent mechanism for the elections. "It is responsibility of the Election Commission to make the elections transparent under Article 218 of the Constitution," it said, quoting the SC opinion.
