Senate Elections: Nomination papers for 144 candidates accepted, 40 rejected

ISLAMABAD (92 News) –  The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday released details of nomination papers of candidates accepted and those who have been rejected after scrutiny for the Senate Elections on March 5. According to details, nomination papers for 144 candidates were accepted and 40 were rejected from all four provinces, FATA and the Federal Capital. Out of a total 116 general seats, 84 nomination papers were accepted while 32 were rejected. Only 1 nomination paper was rejected from the strength of 28 seats reserved for women. For 26 technocrats’ seats, 24 nomination papers were accepted and two rejected. According to schedule released by the ECP for Senate polls, appeals can be filed against rejection of nominations on February 23 and 24. The disposal of appeals will be concluded by the ECP on February 26 and 27 and the final list of candidates will be issued on February 28. The contesting candidates can also withdraw their nominations before publication of the final list.
