Senate passes NAB Amendment Ordinance, Protection of Journalists & Higher Education Amendment bills

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Senate on Friday passed the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Bill, 2021, the National Accountability (Third Amendment) Ordinance 2021 and Higher Education Amendment bills.

The opposition members staged a protest in the House and raised a hue and cry before the speaker dais in protest against rejection of the proposals. They also chanted slogans 'Na Manzoor, Na Manzoor' and threw the copies of the bills towards the chairman after tearing it up.

They demanded that the Protection of Journalists and Media Professionals Bill, 2021, should be referred to the relevant standing committee. Later, the voting was conducted over the bill. As many as 35 senators voted in favour of the bill while 29 votes were cast against it.

Later, Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani postponed the session for an indefinite period.
