Senate rejects "The Anti-Terrorism (Third Amendment) Bill 2020"

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Senate on Wednesday rejected “The Anti-Terrorism (Third Amendment) Bill, 2020 with a majority vote. The anti-terrorism bill was tabled by Senator Sajjad Toor. 34 votes were casted against the bill while 31 senators supported the bill after Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani ordered voting on demand of the opposition. It is noteworthy that the main objective of the bill, moved by Prime Minister’s Advisor on Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, is to control terror financing. On the other hand, the Senate today passed “The Cooperative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2020.” Addressing a session of the Senate, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ali Muhammad Khan has said that the incumbent government will not take dictation from anyone. "We don't want to blacklist so the requirements of international institutions have to fulfill for this purpose," he added. Replying to a question during Question Hour in the House, he said being a signatory of UN Charter, Pakistan has frozen properties of UN designated entities and as a responsible member of the world body; Pakistan has to follow UN instructions after thorough examining. Senate session has been adjourned till Friday 10am.
