Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights seeks reports on Karachi heatwave deaths

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has asked the Chief Secretary Sindh, Chairman NDMA, Ministry for Water and Power and K-Electric to submit a report regarding the deaths of people due to heatwave. Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights Nasreen Jalil held a meeting on Wednesday. She sought an explanation from Chief Secretary Sindh, Chairman NDMA, Ministry for Water and Power and K-Electric regarding heatstroke arrangements. Nasreen Jalil said that 6,000 prisoners have been locked in the jails having space for only 1,000 prisoners. Committee Member Farhatullah Babar said that the commission should monitor military court proceedings. He said that the commission can become a party in any case of the military courts. The Human Rights Commission authorities told the committee that out of 113 international NGO’s in the country, only 19 are registered and 67 were unregistered, while 27 NGOs have been given permission to work in Pakistan.
