Settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute indispensable for peace in South Asia: OIC FMs

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The OIC Foreign Ministers declared that the final settlement of Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions is indispensable for durable peace and stability in South Asia.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation has resolved to protect and promote common interests of member countries and support the just causes of Palestine, Kashmir and others. The member countries resolved to unify efforts to address common challenges and leverage opportunities besides upholding the rights and interests of Muslim minorities in non-OIC countries. The Declaration vowed to pursue a shared vision for greater social, economic, scientific and technological development and integration within the Muslim world and beyond. It welcomed the operationalization of the Afghanistan Humanitarian Trust Fund. It also welcomed the unanimous decision of UN General Assembly to proclaim 15 March as International Day to combat Islamophobia as well as the Council of Foreign Minister's decision to appoint a Special Envoy in this regard.

Addressing a joint news conference along with OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha on conclusion of two-day OIC meeting in Islamabad, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that the 48th Session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers agreed upon a total of one hundred and forty resolutions. The resolutions included Jammu and Kashmir, Palestine and matters of politics, security, humanitarian assistance, economy, plight of Muslim minorities, Islamophobia, arms control, terrorism, Covid-19, illicit financial flows, corruption, OIC reforms. “The OIC also welcomed the establishment of Rehmat ul lil Alameen Authority by Pakistan.”

He said that Pakistan is desirous of being partner in peace but not in conflict.

As regards Russia-Ukraine conflict, the OIC urged both sides to engage in a meaningful dialogue to find a solution and prevent conflict.

Speaking on the occasion, Secretary General OIC Hissein Brahim Taha said that the OIC CFM reiterated its support to the longstanding issues of Palestine and the Jammu and Kashmir.

He also thanked Pakistan for according warm reception to the visiting delegates from OIC countries.
