WAZIRABAD (92 News) – Twelve passengers, including two colonels, a captain and a lieutenant, embraced martyrdom as four bogies of a special train fell into a canal after the bridge collapse near Chanawan, Wazirabad on Thursday. The train carrying armymen was heading towards Kharian when the accident occurred. According to the ISPR said that the accident occurred due to the bridge collapse. Unit Commander Lt-Col Amir Jadoon, his wife and two sons, Major Adil, Captain Kashif, Lance Naik Zafar, Sepoy Islam, Saleem and Babar Usman are among the deceased. Eight bodies have been recovered. Helicopters and SSG divers are participating in the rescue operation. Meanwhile, Provincial Minister Shuja Khanzada has ruled out terrorism. Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique, in a statement, termed the accident a possible terrorist attack. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has expressed concerns over the tragedy and directed the authorities mobilize all resources to rescue the injured and restoration of the track.
