Eight die as incessant rain breaks 30-year-old record in Lahore

LAHORE (92 News) - Eight people were killed in different incident during the incessant rain that broke 30-year-old record in the provincial meteropolis on Wednesday.

In Misri Shah, a couple and his child were killed when the roof of their house collapsed.

Heavy rain turned roads into ponds and streets into canals across the province. Low-lying areas were inundated in Johar Town, Canal Road, Mughalpura, Thokar, Misri Shah and Chah Miran. Patients and attendants faced difficulties when the rainwater entered in Ganga Ram and General Hospital.

Several trees fell during the heavy rain. The LESCO installations were badly damaged due to the rain coupled with gusty winds. Over 100 feeders tripped in different areas, disrupting the he power supply. Motorcycles and vehicles were stuck in the rainwater.

Meanwhile, Punjab Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed the authorities to pump out rainwater from the submerged areas. He said that no leniency would be tolerated in case of any negligence.
