Shutdown against rape of three-year-old girl in Srinagar

SRINAGAR (KMS) – In Occupied Kashmir, a shutdown is being observed in several parts of Srinagar against the rape of a three-year-old girl in Sumbal area of Bandipore district on Monday. The shutdown call was given by the senior Hurriyat leader, Maulana Abbas Ansari. Shops and business establishments are closed in most parts of the city and the skeptical movement of traffic is visible on the roads while many schools in Srinagar are closed. People also staged protests in Alamgari Bazaar and Saida Kadal areas of the city. The protesters are demanding action against the culprit who is in police custody. Meanwhile, heavy deployment of the Indian forces has been made in Srinagar.
Thousands attend funeral prayers of 2 martyrs in Kulgam
In Occupied Kashmir, thousands of people attended the funeral prayers of the two martyrs in Kulgam district. Amid pro-freedom and anti-India slogans, multiple rounds of funeral prayers were held for Aadil Bashir Wani and Javaid Ahmad Butt to accommodate huge rush of people from Kulgam and adjoining areas. Aadil Bashir Wani and Javaid Ahmad Butt were killed by the Indian forces during a cordon and search operation in Hend Sitapora area of Shopian district on Sunday morning. A group of mujahideen also appeared and participated in the funeral of the martyrs. All business centres were closed while public transport is off the roads in Kulgam district. Meanwhile, a body of an unidentified non-Kashmiri mentally challenged woman was found at a public park in Kupwara district on Monday morning.
IOK transporters to observe shutdown tomorrow
In Occupied Kashmir, South Kashmir Transporters Association has called for a complete shutdown tomorrow against the levying of toll tax by India’s National Highways Authority on the Srinagar-Jammu highway. The toll is being collected by NHAI at toll post Kachkoot Sangam in Bijbhara area of Islamabad district. Bilal Ahmad Dar, President Sumo and Temp owners Union, said that a meeting of South Kashmir Transporters Association was held, which was attended by members of all the associations. “It was unanimously decided to observe a one-day shutdown on May 14 keeping in view the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
