Sikh yatrees reach Wagah Border to attend Baba Guru Nanak’s 552nd birth anniversary

KARTARPUR (92 News) – Thousands of Sikh yatrees reached Wagah border to attend the 552nd birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the founder of the Sikh religion, on Wednesday.

Thousands of Sikh devotees from across the world, including India, are reaching Pakistan for the ceremonies.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Shah Mehmood Qureshi said, “The Kartarpur corridor was opened for Sikh devotees after 18 months. Indian Sikh devotees came from Kartarpur and Wagha Border are warmly welcomed. Due to COVID-19, Pakistan had not opened Kartarpur corridor for three months.”

On the opening of the Kartarpur corridor, UN Antonio Guterres Sectary General had said: “On the occasion of Baba Guru Nanak birth anniversary, Pakistan made special arrangements for Sikh community.”

Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Dr Amir Ahmed welcomed the Sikh devotees.

Jona Singh, leader of the Indian yatrees, said that they had received a warm welcome from Pakistan. The Indian devotees seemed extremely happy on reaching Pakistan. 51 Sikh devotees reached Gurdwara through Kartarpur corridor.

On their arrival, Sikh devotees were accorded a rousing welcome. They were garlanded and rose petals were showered on them.
