Sindh CM announces further restrictions during ongoing 14-day lockdown

KARACHI (92 News) – Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah has announced to impose further restrictions during the ongoing lockdown on Wednesday. While addressing a press conference in Karachi, Murad Ali Shah has said that the perception of Pakistan has less coronavirus infections are wrong. He also negated the impression that Pakistan has less number of Covid-19 cases in comparison to the rest of the world. “I think we would have to go for stricter nationwide lockdown in view of increasing number of Coronavirus patients,” the Sindh chief minister said. “Almost ten per cent of the total tests conducted turn up positive so it is wrong to perceive coronavirus is spreading slowly in Pakistan. We are concerned about increasing number of coronavirus cases in Sindh,” he maintained. Briefing over the current situation of the province, the chief minister said that so far 41 people have died of COVID-19 in province. “We have conducted 1523 tests in Sindh in last 24 hours. Earlier we were conducting 500 to 600 tests. We have increased the testing capacity in order to diagnose and isolate more patients. Around 1668 people have tested positive of Coronavirus in Sindh so far,” he said. He added that the province has received testing kits and protective gear for doctors. He further said that the ‘known deaths’ from coronavirus in the province are 41, but warned that the number could be much higher. Adviser to Sindh Chief Minister on Law Murtaza Wahab said on Wednesday that 150 new cases of COVID-19 diagnosed in the province during the past 24 hours. In a Tweet, Murtaza Wahab said that six more have died from coronavirus, taking the provincial tally to 41. He said the confirmed coronavirus cases in Sindh have reached 1688. However, the total number of recovered patients in the province stands at 560 after 133 more recovered from deadly COVID-19 on Wednesday. He said that Sindh had conducted overall 16,026 tests to date.
